Five years ago, Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas, a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.

Now, it’s the early 90’s. Carl’s got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.

On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.

Rockstar Games brings its biggest release to mobile yet with a vast open-world covering the state of San Andreas and its three major cities – Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas – with enhanced visual fidelity and over 70 hours of gameplay.

Latest version made it worse

On iPhone 7 Plus the previous release was perfect, I did not notice any issues at all. With this version, the map is misplaced and cannot be moved away, it kills the experience.

However, I will give five stars, because it was so good to play with it again after 10 years.

Great port of a classic

The game works great, apart from a few minor annoyances:
- certain missions lack the skip dialog option, which makes it very annoying if you have to repeat them multiple times.
- Reuniting the Families mission is close to impossible, compared to console / pc versions - the car chase part cannot be absolved with the aim controls
- the game supports external controllers (in fact it is best played with those), which would make the phone great as a portable console. However, when mirroring the screen via Airplay or HDMI, it still only uses the phone's resolution; unlike eg. Netflix, where external screens run in their native resolution. At least a switch in the settings would be nice when both external screen and controller are present.

Very buggy. Playable but you will have to restart missions due bugs

I played and completed gta:sa multiple times. Played vanilla pc version back in the day, modded the game to the verge of crashing, had a second life on multiplayer and mastered stunts with all types of vehicles, had the officer Tenpenny poster on my wall for years. Completed gta:sa on potatoes, high end gaming pcs, a touchscreen windows machine, iphones and ipads the whole lineup. Never had an issue.

That said. Im confident that this gta:sa remake has to be a distinct, new version cause this is by far the worst iteration of the game. Ive encountered all kinds of bugs, from subtleties like inconsistent npc behaviour or try the controls settings, to more pronounced issues say falling under the map mid-mission and dying, items clipping together. Mind you I didnt test the “boundaries” of the game, Im talkin nostalgic proper mission playthrus.

Bottom line: it is playable, mad uglies w the shiny weird graphics, and buggy af. You will need to restart missions due to lack of foresight in the implementation.
Controls are top notch tho. And Samuel L Jackson is still one cold mf.
Its worth it in the bundle but do not buy this game in itself
