INTRODUCTION
Photography's golden hour casts a warm, reddish glow shortly after sunrise or before sunset, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Its counterpart, the blue hour, bathes the world in a tranquil blue hue just before sunrise or after sunset. These moments, collectively known as magic hours, are when your photography can truly shine. Helios ensures you're always in the right place at the right time, no matter where you are, or if you have an internet connection, making it indispensable for photographers and videographers everywhere.

DESIGN
Helios sings in harmony with the latest iOS design trends, offering a user experience that is not only intuitive but also a visual treat. Its elegant interface, complete with a modern dark theme, ensures that your planning and exploration of light are as beautiful as the moments you capture.

FEATURES
Helios brings a suite of advanced tools to your fingertips. The app's "Outlook" tab offers a delightful overview of today's sun and moon events, alongside a built-in calendar for easy reference. With the "Places" tab, you can bookmark your favorite locales, ensuring you're always prepared, no matter where your adventures lead. The "Tools" tab unveils the magic with an Augmented Reality Lens for real-time celestial tracking, a Light Meter for perfect exposure, and the Map Explorer, allowing you to survey sun and moon positions anywhere in the world for any given time. Plus, personalized notifications keep you in the loop with the latest timings and durations of these magical hours.

Featured on the App Store Today page and acclaimed as one of the best iOS apps by TechnoBuffalo and Apple User, Helios is more than an app—it's your passport to mastering the art of time and light, ensuring you never miss a moment worth capturing.

What’s New

Version 4.0.0

*mic noises* Akhm, is this still on? Thanks everyone for using Helios over the past few years! This is a major and long overdue complete rewrite of the app. Here's what's new:

- New "Outlook" tab replaces the "Today" screen. It features a beautiful new Sun graphic inspired by the old design, but better in every way. Magic hour times are now shown vertically, show more data, and allow you to dive further into each event.
- new "Places" tab replaces the "Location" screen. It's designed from the ground up, but feels familiar and works exactly as you'd expect.
- The "Tools" tab also features a major redesign. It's more dense, but includes all the tools you're familiar with.
- This release fixes various issues, including weird timezone edge cases, odd behaviours in the Southern Hemisphere, and more.
- Notifications have been rewritten from scratch to consume less energy.
- iPad design has been better optimized for the big screen.
- Apple Watch app has been redone from scratch with a bold new design featuring the familiar Sun graphic and more data.
- New widgets, including a beautiful Sun graphic that looks *soooo* cool, give it a try!
- We bumped up the minimum iOS version to iOS 17, so we can better support new iOS features now and in the future.

Sun tracking not accurate at all

Other (often free) sun tracking apps (such as Lumos) will always show an almost perfect AR representation of the sun, with positions drawn in for every hour.

Helios gets the position completely wrong about 50% of the time. The tracking is regularly off by 180 degrees, making it unreliable.

Also, knowing where the sun will be at a given time requires scrolling through time in a linear way. Other apps show you a position for every hour at once, so this take no time at all.

For sun tracking, the free apps are better.
